Well, Don cancelled on a loosely planned idea that we would run tonight, and that was ok, because I was thinking this little pain in my right ankle maybe meant I shouldn't run. So, I had some pizza (4 damn slices) and was thinking about these caramel cookies they have at a gas station about 1.7 miles from here. I reasoned that if I would run there and get them, I could maybe justify eating them. So, I began to dress for a run. Hmmm...37 degrees out, I can run in shorts!
Already in my wool running socks, it occured to me that this would be a good Vibram run...3.4 miles total distance and I would keep it on the clear sidewalks and street to avoid the snow and ice. So, socks off, VFF on. I head out. I am less than a half mile in and thinking...I should run more to earn those cookies. So I turn left and begin my quarter marathon loop instead, which will now be 6.9 miles because of the way I started. I am wondering if I am stupid and if I will suffer cold toes for trying to go this long.
They are mildly cold by one mile in, but by 2 miles I have completely forgotten the toes, and by 4 miles I realize they are as warm as the rest of the foot. The body must have sent some warm blood down there....nice accommodating body! I am keeping a good pace and never walk a single step....feeling good.
I found (and picked up) a 10mm wrench, a golf ball, and a slightly broken ice scraper on my run. The ice scraper I deposited into a trash bin. The wrench and ball I brought home as they can be used. What did I see and NOT pick up? Panties. Black and small enough that she might have been a hottie. No, I didn't even pick them up to look, just paused long enough to verify that was what I was seeing. LOL. I envisioned a gofling mechanic somewhere in my neighborhood getting damn lucky inside his SUV with ice covered windows.
Back home and I am feeling great. I think I should try to ramp up the percentage of training I do barefoot and or in VFF (Vibram Five Fingers) to maybe 5o%. It is now a goal of mine to run a marathon (or ultra) in the VFF this calendar year.
BTW - never did get the cookies. I decided I was making such good progress running, I would reward myself by doing the right thing and eating bananas instead.
